The Nutritional status of mid-day meal program on government and private school students A comparative study

Abstract

Background: The Govt of India's Mid-Day Lunch Programme is a school meal plan aimed at meeting the basic needs of school-aged children. Malnourished children do not attain their full potential for growth and development, which has an effect on their physical ability to work and physiological alterations later in life. The goal of this study was to determine the nutritional health of school-aged students who part in the midday meal program, as food has an effect on our nutrient intake.


Methods: A total of 100 students were separated into two groups: 50 public school students and 50 private school students. Pupils in private schools brought their own lunches, whereas students in government schools were provided with a mid-day meal. Anthropometric and haemoglobin measurements were taken.


The researchers discovered that mid-day meals have an impact on nutritional status, with one meal having a calorific value of 357.6 and a substantial difference in MUAC distribution (CM)in government school pupils during the pre- and post-nutritional periods. Other anthropometric parameters such as height, weight, and TSFT and haemoglobin readings showed no significant differences.


Conclusions: The mid-day meal has an effect on an individual's nutritional state,


according to the study. A well-balanced, freshly cooked lunch has a positive impact


on the academic achievement of schoolchildren.
