Abstract

Pangas fish has long body laterally flattened with no scales, relatively small head, broad mouth with small sharp teeth on jaw and relatively large eyes. It is an omnivorous animal but become herbivore for the next following years. Pangasius is a air breathing fishes. This research was conducted in the state of Jharkhand which is one of the early adopters of cage culture. Generally two types of this species are cultured in Jharkhand. Growth of healthy seeds are totally depends on its feeding habitats and also on the good quality of ponds/cages. Mostly Cages are used to culture the Pangas fish due to its rapid growth. The aim of the study is to choosing the right size of seeds and proper feeding of quality feed for the growth and survival of pangas fish in Hazaribag. Fishery department Doranda Ranchi and Shalimar Dhruva are the training center of fishery. These departments trained the 100 farmers of all over Jharkhand yearly and suggest that they cultured to this fish very carefully. It can be harvested after 8-10 months of culture period when its weight reach approximately 1.1.5 kg. Therefore, the present study was undertaken to determine the seed (which is known as fry to fingerling) how to effect on the production of pangasius. Thus the good quality of seeds and feed are suitable to obtain the maximum growth and profit from the pangasius. For this research data and informations are collected through field survey Hazaribag (Bada jheel) and Konar Dam Hazaribag Jharkhand. I have also used to questionnaire method among the farmers. Overall I concluded that pangas fish is most profitable fish for its low cost and rapid growth, so the factors of cage fish farming such as quality of feed and seed have a great role on the production of it.
