INFORMATION NEEDS AND INFORMATION SEEKING BEHAVIOR OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS OF NUSRL: A STUDY

Abstract

The study inspects the information needs and seeking behavior of undergraduate students of National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi. A survey method was used for collecting of the data. 100 copies of questionnaires were distributed. Among them 89 were used for the study. Percentage count and frequencies were used for the presentation and analysis of data. The findings revealed that General Reading, Course Work and Assignment, Examination and Test, Seminars and Workshops were main factors that influence students’ information seeking behavior. Internet, E-journals and Text Books were the most used information sources. Lack of ICT infrastructure, lack of relevant information and slow internet connectivity were identified as major barriers in seeking information. The findings of the study can be used for the betterment of the library services and to know a trend of information seeking behavior of undergraduate students.
