Abstract:


India is regarded as one of the democratic countries in the world, got her independence in the year 1947. Since 60 years has passed yet the inequality, the gender discrimination still regarding a major issue in our country. The women are still found inferior, subservient, unequally treated by male dominated society. Though the Indian constitution guarantees equal rights to women with men through many constitutional provisions but still it does not become a fruitful. Women face a lot of problems in their lives. So it is a very crucial factor to make them empowered. Empowerment means to make them stand by their own feet, treat equally, enjoy equal rights in family, society, employment sectors, equal rights in education, economics, in expression of their views etc. If the women are not empowered, the society will remain in the world of ignorance and undeveloped. Here education plays a major role to make them empowerment. The present study shows the ways of empowerment of women and the role of education in the district of Birbhum, belongs to the state of West Bengal in India.
